Repentance from Negative Thinking

Our minds are a battlefield, and negativity can easily win if we aren’t careful to guard our thought lives. It’s easy to allow negative thoughts, fears, doubts, and bitterness to creep into our minds and cultivate a negative attitude toward everything and everyone around us.

Paul recognizes this and urges us to think about true, noble, right, pure, lovely, and admirable things. He tells us to dwell on excellent and praiseworthy things instead of negativity and pessimism. One way to eradicate our minds of negative thoughts is to actively practice gratitude. Having a thankful heart and intentionally calling out God’s goodness helps us focus on the right things and fill our hearts and minds with hope.

Let’s take time today to repent of our negativity. Let’s ask God's forgiveness for fostering thoughts that don’t please Him. Let’s call out our ungratefulness and ask Him to cleanse us of all doubts, fears, and pessimism.

Journaling Prompt:

Illustrate the transformation that occurs when negativity is replaced with gratitude. Use vibrant colors and images that reflect a thankful heart.
