A Child's Guide To: Following Jesus

DAY 4 OF 6

# Slow and Steady > And we must be determined to run the race that is ahead of us. We must keep our eyes on Jesus, who leads us and makes our faith complete. He endured the shame of being nailed to a cross, because he knew that later on he would be glad he did. Now he is seated at the right side of God’s throne! > Hebrews 12:1b-2 (CEV) A pigeon, a turtle, and a raccoon decided to run a race. The raccoon moved fast across the grass, but he suddenly smelled something around the corner of the house—the garbage can! Forgetting about the race, he ran to the can and started eating the thrown-out banana peels and food scraps. (Gross!) The pigeon took off fast into the sky, flying high. Some kids spotted the bird and pointed at her. Liking the attention, she started doing tricks in the air to show off. The kids clapped and the pigeon soon forgot all about the race. Finally, the turtle trudged along. Slow, but steady. Step by step. He just focused and kept going. And guess what? The turtle won the race! Living the way God wants is like running a race. We run the race well by doing what Jesus says and staying focused on him. Jesus loves us so much, and he is always there to help us stay on the right track. ## HERO TRAINING What are things that make you lose focus from doing what you are supposed to do? If your parent tells you to go to bed, what should you do? How can you avoid the things that get in the way of doing what's right? ## GOD'S WONDERFUL WORLD A leatherback sea turtle can swim up to 22 miles per hour…which is much faster than any human can run! ## KEEP IT GOING Related passages: These additional verses will help your children expand Scriptural knowledge and put on the armor of God’s Word to tackle each day.
