Gift of Heaven: A Christmas Devotional Seriesනියැදිය

DAY 7 – God With Us in the Fields
The first to hear of the Messiah’s birth weren’t kings, religious leaders, or influencers of the day. They were shepherds. Ordinary, often overlooked individuals doing a necessary but unglamorous job on the outskirts of society. This moment was a holy interruption: heaven breaking into their mundane night shift.
The angel's words shattered the silence with joy: “Good news of great joy… for all the people.” It’s one of the most radical declarations in Scripture—that the Messiah had come not just for the elite or the holy, but for the lowly, the working-class, the forgotten. The shepherds’ response? They didn’t hesitate. They hurried to find Jesus and then spread the word to everyone they could.
And in the sky above them, the heavens exploded with worship: “Glory to God in the highest!” Heaven could not contain its joy. Earth joined in.
This is the heartbeat of worship; recognising the presence of God and responding in awe.
Prayer
Lord, help me to see You in the ordinary moments of my life. Stir in me the joy and urgency of the shepherds—to respond to Your presence with immediate praise and to share the good news with others. Let heaven’s worship echo in my heart today.
Practice
Find a quiet moment today, perhaps during your own “night watch," when the house is still or the tasks are mundane, and speak out loud the angel’s words:
“Fear not.
Good news.
Great joy.”
Let that truth shape your worship.
