Change Your Thoughts
Your thoughts have incredible power. What you think about shapes your emotions, your decisions, and your future. If you’re constantly entertaining fearful, “what if” scenarios, or dwelling on thoughts that you’re a loser or not enough, then anxiety will grow.
But if you fill your mind with God’s truth, then peace will follow.
Proverbs 23:7 tells us that what a person thinks about, that’s what they live out. Second Corinthians 10:5 admonishes us to cast down imaginations and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God, and bring into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ. Every thought! That sounds almost impossible, but if it’s in the Bible, we can do it! And that verse demonstrates just how vital right thinking is.
Taking every thought captive means to stop letting your thoughts run wild, measure them against God’s Word, and begin to think about what He says about your situation in His Word.
When you feel yourself getting anxious, ask yourself these questions:
- Track: What am I thinking about right now?
- Truth or fear? Does this align with God’s Word, or is it driven by fear?
- Challenge it: What does God’s Word say about this?
- Replace it: Swap those anxious thoughts with God’s truth (Psalm 91:11) and think on that instead.
Remember: You are not your thoughts - you are who God says you are! And you are not a victim – you have control in this area. No one else is in charge of your thoughts but you. You are the CEO of your thoughts! Large and in charge! You can choose what you think about.
What anxious thoughts do you notice most often? How can you replace them with God’s truth today? Learn to recognize when your thoughts are feeding fear instead of faith. Then take them captive one by one by replacing lies with God’s truth.
