Restoring Your Soul - Living a Limitless Life

Willingness to Heal

God created us with three aspects: body, soul, and spirit. Our spirit is the part of us that connects with God. Our body is the physical vessel that houses our spirit, while our soul is the part that interacts with the world around us. The soul has three dimensions: mind, will, and emotions.

When we choose to engage in a relationship with Jesus, our spirit is instantaneously renewed by the Spirit of God. Our soul, however, requires our active participation to heal and be restored. This process involves renewing our minds, submitting our wills, and healing our emotions. Part of the reason that my friend Nelson had the influence he had with the people in his world was that he was willing to acknowledge his struggle with depression and pursue God for his healing.

Over the next 28 days, we will focus on one concept that we can proactively work on to restore an aspect of our soul, taking intentional steps toward growth and wholeness.

God desires to partner with us in restoring our souls to their original design. Psalm 23:2-3 (TPT) reads, “He offers a resting place for me in his luxurious love. His tracks take me to an oasis of peace near the quiet brook of bliss. That’s where He restores and revives my life.” The footnotes for verse 3 state, “He causes my life (or soul) to return.”

Although it isn’t as simple as flipping a switch, our souls can be restored, and our lives can be returned closer to how we were created and intended to live.

The first step in this journey is being willing to submit our will to His heart for us and to open our hearts to the healing He wants us to receive.

I understand that the idea of “submitting” may feel like you’ll be trapped, dominated, or controlled. However, I’d like to share a different perspective on submission. The word sub means “under,” so to submit to God is really to come under the mission He has for you. When you see submission through the heart of a loving God, it isn’t something to fear or resist; it becomes the safest and most secure place you could ever be.

In the Scriptures that follow, Jesus highlights the importance of our willingness to be healed and promises restoration to those who are willing to receive it.

Restoration begins with a choice. God will never force His way into our lives, but when we invite Him, He can touch the deepest wounds to bring healing and freedom.

I Invite You to Ask Yourself:

  1. What does it mean for me to be willing to let God search my heart? (See the Scripture referenced below)
  2. Where in my life do I sense God inviting me to change how I think?
  3. Are there areas of pain I’ve been avoiding? What am I afraid of?

I Invite You to Pray:

Lord, I want to partner with You to restore my soul. I invite you to reveal the places in my heart and mind that are hindering me from living the way you created me to live. I trust You to walk with me and to bring understanding, healing and peace where I need it most. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
