Stewardship of Creation

Honouring God's creation

These verses remind us that all of creation – land, sea and every living being – belongs to God, not to us. God’s ownership is total and absolute; we are not proprietors, but stewards entrusted with His world.

Stewardship of creation flows directly from this truth. Since God is the creator and sustainer of all things, our role is to care for the earth as an act of worship and obedience. Genesis teaches that humanity was given dominion not to exploit, but to tend and keep the garden (Genesis 2:15). This responsibility is echoed throughout scripture, calling us to treat the land, animals and resources with respect and compassion.

Christian stewardship means recognising the interconnectedness of all life and the impact of our choices. When we pollute, waste or destroy, we violate the trust God has placed in us. Conversely, when we conserve, restore and nurture, we reflect God’s character and honour His handiwork.

Psalm 24:1–2 calls us to humility and gratitude. Everything we have is a gift. As stewards, we’re accountable to God for how we use and protect His creation. Let us honour the creator by caring for the earth, ensuring that future generations can also witness its beauty and abundance – a living testimony to the glory of God. Amen.

Stewardship of Creation

“In heaven we’ll be blessed with God’s new and perfect creation, but until then He’s entrusted us with His earthly creation. In light of that, how will we steward our time, treasure, resources, bodies and the environment around us to better serve God and others here on earth?” (Trustworthy Renters – Jodie Williams)
