Stress & Anxiety – Unlikely Companions

As we embark on this 21-day journey to overcome stress, let’s first acknowledge that it’s not just about stress. Where there is stress, anxiety is often holding tightly to its sweaty palm. Stress, anxiety, worry, and fear seem to come as a package deal of tormenting emotions…alternating center stage from time to time.

Throw in being overworked, overcommitted, overscheduled, etc. Ugh! The weight of overwhelming emotions can often be crushing.

In fact, according to a 2016 study published in The Journal of Brain & Behavior, women are twice as likely to suffer from severe stress and anxiety as men.

Women who are mothers often experience the stress of parenting, of providing financially for their families (as a contributor or as the primary breadwinner), of juggling activities, and of keeping the home.

Single women, whether never married, divorced, or widowed, can experience the stress of making decisions alone, of others’ expectations, of work demands, having adequate finances, and of handling household repairs.

Career women can experience the stress of high-pressure workplaces, climbing the corporate ladder, coping with challenging business people, and often unequal pay. Married or single, a career woman must also maintain a stable home life while juggling job demands. It's exhausting, to say the least.

Maybe you’ve tried what the world recommends to quiet the stress and anxiety swirling inside, yet you are still overwhelmed. Or you’ve had some success, but you desperately need a fresh touch from God…an infusion of His peace, joy, and strength!
