Living One: A Study of Integrity in Hebrewsනියැදිය

Day 1: A life of integrity
In the field of psychosocial development, integrity is defined by the maturity of identity—being true to oneself—in relation to character, values, and commitments. It is the mark of an integrated life. The apostle Paul expressed a similar desire for the Church: "to become mature, attaining to the whole measure of the fullness of Christ" (Ephesians 4:13–15 NIV). The Greek word he used, teleios, means that which is perfect. It conveys a sense of coherence, integrity, and wholeness of our new identity.
The good news of the gospel is that Jesus, by a single offering, "has perfected for all time those who are being sanctified" (Hebrews 10:14 NIV). This means that, by faith in the finished work of Christ, we receive his perfection—teleios—eternally. Yet the writer to the Hebrews makes it clear that, in this temporary and earthly life, we are continually being perfected; sanctified.
This captures the paradox at the heart of the Christian life: we are becoming in reality what we already are in Christ. We are, at once, perfect before God and being made perfect by God; holy before God and being made holy by God. Our identity and position are secure in Christ, even as we continue to grow into the maturity of that identity—expressed through a life of integrity.
Prayer Reflection
Father, thank you for the gift of wholeness in Christ. Thank you that through his perfect sacrifice, I am already perfect in your eyes. Amen.
