Face to face with God

Consider, for a moment, the essence of prayer again. Martyn Lloyd-Jones described it this way: "Prayer is an act in which we turn our back on everything and shut everything else out until we are alone, face to face with God." In this type of prayer, we stand before God, and His face, His omnipotence, and His omnipresence convince us that it is enough to speak to Him about our situation.

In 1998, Jericho Walls (a prayer network) purchased a building for office use. We needed $300,000—a significant amount at that time. We managed to secure a loan of $180,000, but still needed $120,000. I approached the seller, who agreed to allow us to pay him the remainder in ten instalments of $12,000 each month. We did not have the money to make those payments, nor did we have anyone to ask for help. So, we did the only thing we knew to do—we prayed. People thought we were being irresponsible.

Over the next ten months, we managed to pay the instalment on time at the end of each month. Only the final instalment was paid ten days late. This was in addition to the monthly repayments on the $180,000 loan—money we also did not have. Just as we received an extraordinary and inexplicable $12,000 each month for those ten months, that extra amount stopped coming in afterwards. God had simply moved people over those ten months to provide the funds.

Hundreds of thousands of Christians can testify to God's supernatural financial provision—individuals who often told no one about their needs and who had no one to ask for help.

Move People Through God Alone

So often, we are confronted with situations where we feel completely powerless. We tried everything, but there is just no breakthrough. In such situations, we need to understand that it is possible to move people through God by prayer alone. Too often, we want to lend God a hand. Throw yourself on God - He is able.
