Every Nation: Getting to Know God More Through Psalm 19නියැදිය

Everything Has a Purpose
Do you have a bedtime routine, something you do the same way every night? Like brush your teeth, get on your pajamas, read a story? Lots of things in our world have a routine, things we unknowingly expect every day! We expect mama bears to take care of their cubs. We expect leaves to change colors in the fall. We even expect clouds to stay up in the sky!
When I lived in a country called Thailand, every summer we experienced a season of rains that lasted a few months. We celebrated whenever the sun came out during that time! God has a way of doing things in the world and reasons for doing them that way.
David talks about this in Psalm 19 verses 5-6 (NIV):
In the heavens God has pitched a tent for the sun.
It is like a bridegroom coming out of his chamber,
like a champion rejoicing to run his course.
It rises at one end of the heavens
and makes its circuit to the other;
nothing is deprived of its warmth.
David is saying that God created a place in the sky for the sun. The sun looks “like a champion” running the same race across the sky every day! David says the sun’s job, or purpose, is to warm the earth.
This is one of my favorite things about God’s creation. I love knowing that God is working everything together for a purpose! The rains water the plants and the plants grow food. What a wonderful system that reflects God’s good purposes!
Revelation 4:11 says, “Worthy are you, our Lord and God, to receive glory and honor and power, for you created all things, and by your will they existed and were created” (ESV).
God made everything in the world for a purpose. Including you!
- As a family: Name THREE things in God’s creation and their purpose. Bonus points if their purpose helpssomething else in nature!
- Need a hint? The life cycle of a flower is a beautiful part of God’s creation that reminds us of God’s purposes! The seed is buried in the soil, the rain waters the earth, the seed grows into a leaf, and the leaf grow to a flower!
