In The Manifestation Of His Holiness During Conflicts - 1
“...learn from Me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.” Matthew 11:28-30 (NIV)
Every year, we witness spiritual attacks that intensify particularly at the beginning of the fast, and most of these occur in relationships with our loved ones. Conflicts, frustrations, misunderstandings, arguments, shouting, disappointment, and disagreements hurt our feelings and affect our homes. Hundreds of families wrestle with this.
Family conflicts are the most vulnerable and unprotected part of our lives. We experience heartache and bitter offense, wounds run the deepest. They stir up anger in us quickly. If we allow negative thoughts and carnal emotions to guide us, it is easy to turn into an aggressive or withdrawn person. In the development of conflict situations with our loved ones, it seems justified to respond in kind, to match tone for tone, look for look, ten words for one and then we pull away. We shut down communication with those who are incapable of being grateful for kindness, generosity, and care.
God calls us to something radically different in these moments. He is calling us to display His holiness, even in the midst of conflict. His will for us is not to let our fleshly desires dominate our responses, but to let His Spirit lead us into holiness and peace. Our greatest concern in these moments of tension, frustration, or outright hostility must be to reveal the beauty of His holiness.
Jesus lived it. He knew rejection—rejection from His own family, from His neighbors, from the very society He grew up in and from the entire nation as a whole. His own brothers and community in Nazareth did not believe in Him. The only thing the people of Israel felt for their Messiah was contempt and condemnation, which ultimately culminated in the highest judgment — the sentence of “worthy of death.” But what did Jesus do? Did He retaliate? Did He unleash His righteous wrath? No. He bore it all with unimaginable patience, and in so doing, He revealed the holiness of God. The holiness of Christ inspires us to endure our own conflicts without sinning, even when the hurt runs deep.
So the question for us is simple but profound: What do we do when relationships get tough? Do we let our flesh have the final say? Or do we choose to rise above, to let God’s Spirit lead us into a response that reflects His love, His grace, and His holiness? It’s in these moments that we reveal who truly has our hearts.
God is calling us to fix our eyes on Him, to show His holiness even when it feels impossible. When the heat of conflict rises, He’s whispering, “Don’t choose irritation, don’t choose anger—choose Me.
Let My holiness shine through you.” And when do we? We find a peace that transcends our circumstances, a peace that grounds us, even when the storms rage around us.
“Lord, help me keep my focus on the Author of my faith — Jesus Christ, who, even when misunderstood, despised, and rejected, remained humble and loving. Let me reflect Your holiness, even when it’s hard. Amen.”
