Journeying to Easter - Part 3නියැදිය

Passover
Some years ago, I was invited to celebrate the Passover by a Jewish Christian friend of mine. I was aware of the gravity of the occasion, but I wasn’t prepared for the sense of joy during the ceremony before the meal.
Here was the power of God to save through the blood of the lamb shed and symbolically smeared on the lintels of the door. The gravity was not lost on me. Here in this moment of fellowship, I was part of the family that God had marked to save. Had I been back in Egypt, all those years ago, I would have been passed over. My life would have been spared. I was, in effect, covered by the blood of the lamb. I had been marked as one of God’s children.
I look to Jesus, whom we identify as the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world. We do not see Jesus as conqueror and king, but as the Lamb, for He had not yet suffered; He had not yet given Himself as the ultimate sacrifice so that we might be covered in His blood for all time.
The Bible tells us that Jesus bore the weight of our sin. All of our sin. Can you imagine that? Can you imagine the impossible weight that was on His shoulders? And Jesus takes it away. Why? Because He loves us. He loves us so very much. And my heart aches with the joy of that recognition. How can we begin to express our thanks to Him, the Lamb who was slain?

“In these next days and weeks leading up to Easter we’ll explore different scriptures. Each verse a thread in the tapestry of God’s great big redemption story – all culminating in the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ. In this Easter season, let’s slow down and create a regular rhythm of remembrance together.” (Lent – Lucy Weil)
