Journeying to Easter - Part 3නියැදිය

Kingly entrance
During the passion week, Jesus went up to Jerusalem where He was greeted by a large crowd who called out ‘Hosanna, Hosanna’, which means ‘Save, save’, in response to the testimony of those who saw Him raise Lazarus from the dead. This was an impromptu response met by a prophetically inspired response from Jesus to find and ride a young donkey into the city (Zechariah 9:9). Any member of the multitude, the religious rulers or the disciples must have been thinking, ‘What on earth is happening and what is the meaning of all this?’ Verse 16 says that the disciples eventually understood the importance of the day and the event in the light of Jesus’ resurrection.
I cannot but think of the magnitude of the day and of the various responses. The Pharisees were immediately defensive, the disciples unsure, but the crowds welcomed Jesus ecstatically. So now, 2,000 years later, how shall we respond? Defensive. Unsure. Or ecstatic? And how shall we respond when Jesus Christ returns riding a white horse to rule and reign upon the earth (Revelation 19:11)?
Lord, we pray that we will be believing followers who accept Your Word and prepare for Your second coming.

“In these next days and weeks leading up to Easter we’ll explore different scriptures. Each verse a thread in the tapestry of God’s great big redemption story – all culminating in the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ. In this Easter season, let’s slow down and create a regular rhythm of remembrance together.” (Lent – Lucy Weil)
