Gospel of John Student Devotionalනියැදිය

In John 10:1-30, Jesus tells us something pretty incredible: “I am the Good Shepherd.” At first glance, this might seem like an ancient metaphor, something that doesn’t connect to our lives as teens today. After all, most of us aren’t shepherds, and we don’t really spend time with sheep. But if we dig a little deeper, we realize that this imagery of a shepherd speaks to something so powerful and personal: Jesus knows us, cares for us, and wants to guide us.
In high school, it can feel like there are a lot of voices trying to define who we are. Friends, social media, teachers, even our families might try to tell us what we should be doing with our lives or who we should be. But here’s the truth: Jesus, the Good Shepherd, knows you better than anyone. He’s the only one who truly sees your heart and cares for your future.
There are four main sections to this passage:
1. Jesus Knows His Sheep (John 10:1-5)
Jesus starts by talking about a shepherd who knows his sheep by name and leads them in and out of the pasture. The sheep trust the shepherd because they recognize his voice. In the same way, Jesus calls us by name. He doesn’t see us as just another face in the crowd; He sees us as individuals who He loves deeply and knows intimately.
In high school, we can sometimes feel like we’re just a face in the crowd, especially with the pressure to fit in. But Jesus calls us out of the crowd. He knows your name, your struggles, your fears, and your dreams. You don’t have to pretend to be someone you’re not for Him to love you. He knows who you truly are, and He calls you to follow Him.
2. The Good Shepherd Lays Down His Life (John 10:7-18)
In these verses, Jesus says something amazing: “I am the Good Shepherd. The Good Shepherd lays down His life for the sheep.” (John 10:11) He’s not just some random leader or figurehead—He’s willing to sacrifice everything for us. Jesus didn’t come to lead from a distance; He came to give His life for our sake.
As a teen, you might feel like you’re constantly giving up things—time, energy, maybe even parts of yourself—to try to please others or live up to expectations. But Jesus is different. He gave His life for you. No one else has made that kind of sacrifice. That’s the depth of His love for you. When the world asks you to give up your time or energy to meet its demands, Jesus is calling you to give your life to Him, to trust Him with everything, because He’s the only one who has truly given all for you.
3. Hearing His Voice (John 10:14-16)
Jesus says, “I know my sheep and my sheep know me.” (John 10:14). Just like the sheep recognize the voice of their shepherd, we are called to recognize the voice of Jesus. This isn’t just about hearing Him—it’s about listening, knowing His voice, and following where He leads.
In high school, there’s a lot of noise around us—opinions, pressures, distractions. Sometimes, it’s hard to hear God’s voice above everything else. But the more we spend time with Him, the more we recognize His voice in our hearts. That might mean carving out time in your day to pray, read the Bible, or simply sit in silence and listen. Jesus is speaking; the question is, are we tuning in?
4. The Unbreakable Relationship (John 10:27-30)
Finally, Jesus reassures us: “My sheep listen to my voice; I know them, and they follow me. I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish; no one will snatch them out of my hand.” (John 10:27-28). When we follow Jesus, we’re in a relationship with Him that can never be broken. Nothing can separate us from His love or His protection.
In high school, relationships can be unpredictable. Friendships change, people come and go, and sometimes we’re left feeling unsure of where we stand. But with Jesus, we have a secure relationship that is unshakable. When we follow Him, He promises to guide us, protect us, and hold us tightly. No matter what changes around us, we can stand firm in His love.
Reflection questions:
Do you recognize Jesus’ voice in your life?
Are you allowing Him to guide you through the noise of school, friends, and all the pressures you face?
What does it mean to you to know that Jesus, the Good Shepherd, laid down His life for you?
