Atunci Iov s-a sculat, și-a sfâșiat mantaua și și-a tuns capul. Apoi, aruncându-se la pământ, s-a închinat și a zis: „Gol am ieșit din pântecele mamei mele și gol mă voi întoarce în sânul pământului. Domnul a dat și Domnul a luat – binecuvântat fie Numele Domnului!” În toate acestea Iov n-a păcătuit deloc și n-a vorbit nimic necuviincios împotriva lui Dumnezeu.
