Atunci Iov s-a ridicat, și-a sfâșiat haina lungă pe care o purta la exterior peste celelalte haine și și-a ras părul de pe cap. Apoi a căzut pe pământ, s-a închinat și a zis: „Când m-a născut mama mea, am venit în această lume fără să dețin ceva. Acum mă voi întoarce în pământ la fel cum am venit (pe el)! Iahve a dat și tot El a luat. Să fie binecuvântat numele Lui!” În toate aceste circumstanțe, Iov nu a păcătuit (deloc). El nu a formulat nicio acuzație împotriva lui Dumnezeu.
