Very early in the morning, while it was still dark, Jesus got up and left the house. He went to a place where he could be alone and pray.

“The time has come,” he said. “The kingdom of God is near! Repent and believe the good news.”

Jesus was coming up out of the water, he saw heaven opening up and the Holy Spirit coming down on him like a dove. A voice from heaven said to him, “You are my beloved Son. I’m very pleased with you.”

I’m baptizing you with water, but he will baptize you with the Holy Spirit.”

“Come and follow me,” Jesus told them, “and I’ll send you out to fish for people.” They left their nets right away and followed him.

The people were amazed at his teaching, because he taught them with authority, not like the teachers of the law.
