What the Bible Says About Advent - 29 Days of Advent Meditationsਨਮੂਨਾ

Day 19: Joy in Trials
- Verses:
- James 1:2–3: "Consider it pure joy... whenever you face trials of many kinds."
- 1 Peter 4:13: "Rejoice inasmuch as you participate in the sufferings of Christ."
- Romans 15:32: "So that I may come to you with joy, by God’s will."
- Psalm 30:5: "Weeping may stay for the night, but rejoicing comes in the morning."
- Habakkuk 3:18: "Yet I will rejoice in the Lord, I will be joyful in God my Savior."
- Reflection:
In trials, Christ’s presence enables us to find joy, as James 1:2–3 teaches, because trials refine our faith. 1 Peter 4:13 invites us to rejoice in sharing Christ’s sufferings, knowing they lead to glory. Psalm 30:5 promises that joy follows weeping, and Habakkuk 3:18 models rejoicing in God despite hardship. Advent reminds us that Jesus walks with us through storms, transforming pain into opportunities for deeper trust and joy in His saving grace, which never fails.
- Application:
- Identify a current trial. How can you find joy in Christ amidst it?
- Today, pray Habakkuk 3:18, asking for joy in hardship.
- Journal about a past trial where God brought joy.
- Share this hope with someone facing challenges, perhaps through a note or conversation, encouraging them to trust Christ.
- Take one action, like serving someone in need, to reflect joy in trials, showing others the strength found in God’s presence.
- Prayer:
Lord, teach me to find joy in You, no matter the circumstances. In Jesus' name. Amen.
About this Plan

These 29 daily devotionals, created by Dr. Walt Larimore, are structured around the four traditional pre-Christmas Advent candles—Hope, Peace, Joy, and Love and one final devotion for the penultimate Christ candle. Each of the first four weeks focuses on one candle, with seven daily devotions exploring a specific aspect of that theme through Bible verses, a reflection, and a prayer prompt—then, of course, the final Christmas Eve or Christmas Day devotion. All Bible verses are quoted from the NIV, 2011.
