Devotions on F.I.R.E. Year Twoਨਮੂਨਾ

There is no fear in love; but perfect love casts out fear, because fear involves torment (1 John 4:18 NKJV).
How do you overcome fear?
In today’s reading, Moses warns against fear in warfare, advising those who are fearful to leave, lest their fear infect others (Deuteronomy 20:8). Fear, like poison, can paralyze entire armies. It is important to remove fear because it spreads quickly. One of the best ways to combat fear is to pray and meditate on God’s faithfulness, which removes fear.
Beware, because independence apart from God can also breed fear too. In Mark 14, Jesus foretells Peter's denial, but Peter boasts he would never deny Him. Yet, a few verses later, Peter falls asleep while Jesus prays, showing his lack of dependence on God (Mark 14:38). Prayer, a sign of dependence, could have bolstered Peter's courage. Later, Peter will become fearful, lose his courage, and even deny knowing the Lord! We need to learn from Peter’s mistakes and combat fear with prayer!
Employment Point: Prayerfully depend upon Jesus to keep you courageous for Him.
About this Plan

Devotions on F.I.R.E. journeys through the Bible in one year. Each day includes a devotion based on Dr. Burge’s F.I.R.E. method of Bible Study. F.I.R.E. stands for Familiarity, Interpretation, Relationship, and Employment. The F.I.R.E. method and the daily devotions help readers remember and apply what they read as they fuel the fire in their hearts for God’s Word—adapted from the book Devotions on F.I.R.E. Year Two, by Dr. Ken J. Burge, Sr.
