Philippians 4 - God’s Peace

Peace. The one thing we're all looking for. Peace of mind, peace of heart, peace on earth.

And with each passing year, it seems we're even further away from peace than before.

But it doesn't have to be that way.

I love the book of Philippians. It's brimming with joy, profound insight and... it's short! So if you haven't read it yet, you got no excuse. ;-)

According to comedian Phil Callaway: a small book that will take 17 minutes to read. "Pour a cup of coffee and crack open Philippians, follow Paul's advice and example, and see what happens."

Paul gives the key to live a life of peace: ‭Philippians 4:6-7, NLT‬.

6. Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he has done.
7. Then you will experience God’s peace, which exceeds anything we can understand.

And he should know, he wrote this book while in prison, and it's his happiest letter that we know of!

Four-and-a-half years ago, I ran into this "peace that exceeds all our understanding". In the midst of a severe depression, while on suicide watch, after having lived a life for years without God, I finally kicked over every bit of my mess to Him. And in that same moment, He submerged me in a peace that instantly set me free from depression and my longing for death. In that moment, I got to know Him as Papa, my Daddy.

Now, that overwhelming Peace didn't last, unfortunately. But I learned to live a life with a God who cares about every little detail in my life, who encourages me to cast all my worries upon Him.

Let the words of this song sink into your troubled, restless mind. Drink in these words. Meditate on them. And if you're anything like me, you want to write them down and keep them on you at all times. You'll need the reminder, trust me. 😉
