House of David, Season 2: Trusting God in the Middle of the Storyਨਮੂਨਾ

Can God Be Trusted?
We’ve talked a lot about the difference between Saul and David. And you’ll see more of that unfold in this season of House of David. In this creative portrayal, Saul’s downfall is aided by his wife. As Saul continues to reject God, she shows no interest in looking inward at how her own house has sinned. Instead, she treats the Lord’s discipline and rejection of Saul as an affront against them, rather than as the consequence of their rebellion against Him.
We often do the same. In Eden, Satan’s first tactic was to twist God’s words, making His goodness look suspect. And he hasn’t stopped. The Enemy is not only an accuser of God’s people, he is an accuser of God Himself. His accusations land because we project the ways people have failed us onto God, convincing ourselves that God is no different than man.
When that happens, hope erodes. If we stop believing God will be faithful, we give up when His ways don’t make sense to us. We start looking elsewhere to meet needs only He can fulfill. But Numbers 23:19 reminds us that “God is not human, that He should lie… does He promise and not fulfill?” This truth is echoed again about 400 years later by the prophet Samuel in his rebuke of Saul. And later in David’s life, even when hunted and pressed, he could still say, “I remain confident of this: I will see the goodness of the Lord in the land of the living.”
Saul and his house couldn’t see where they had fallen short, placing their trust in themselves rather than in God. But though their trust wavered, God never stopped being trustworthy.
Even in His discipline, even in His silence, even when His plan is hidden from us, God can be trusted. His Word is the light that exposes the lie. God is not a liar. So hold onto hope, knowing that whatever we face, we remain confident and trust that we will see the goodness of God, even if we don’t see it right now.
Reflection Question: Where are you tempted to believe God has failed you, and how might His Word correct that lie?
