Counting the Cost

Ruth grew up a devoted Muslim. She longed to pray in a way God would hear her, but fear haunted her. What if she prayed incorrectly and displeased Him? Her search led her to Jesus. When she learned that He not only hears her but loves her, she surrendered her life to Him.

At first, her decision was tolerated in hopes that it was a passing interest. But soon, it cost her everything. Her family rejected her. Her community turned against her. One day, her family told her: Deny Christ or we will stone you.

Her response was breathtaking. She gathered the largest stones she could find and piled them in front of her home. If death was coming, she wanted it to be quick. She was ready to die for the One who had given His life for her.

But God wasn’t finished. By His grace, she was spared. Over time, her family was reconciled to her. And today, Ruth helps train Christian leaders through ILI, spreading the Gospel in a nation where 99% of the population does not follow Christ.

Her life testifies that following Jesus costs everything, and He is worth it. Jesus said plainly: “Whoever does not carry their cross and follow me cannot be my disciple… Suppose one of you wants to build a tower. Won’t you first sit down and estimate the cost?”

What comfort, security, or reputation are you unwilling to lose? When Christ is your treasure, the cost is great and the reward is greater.
