Coming to Life: 30-Day Devotional

DAY 27 OF 30

The Triumphal Entry

The Triumphal Entry marked the beginning of the final week of Jesus’ earthly ministry. Riding into Jerusalem on a donkey, He fulfilled Zechariah’s prophecy of a humble King bringing salvation. The crowds shouted “Hosanna!” and laid palm branches before Him, expecting a political deliverer. Yet Jesus came not to overthrow Rome but to conquer sin and death.

The symbolism of the donkey revealed His mission. He did not come as a warrior on a warhorse but as a servant King bringing peace. The shouts of “Hosanna” acknowledged Him as the Son of David, the promised Messiah. But within days, those cries of praise would turn into shouts of “Crucify Him.”

The Triumphal Entry was both a moment of celebration and of misunderstanding. The people expected one kind of king, but Jesus came as another. His true triumph would come not through force but through the cross and resurrection. The palm branches, symbols of victory, pointed forward to the ultimate victory of the Lamb. Revelation shows a vision of all nations waving palm branches before the throne, declaring salvation belongs to God and the Lamb.

This moment reminds us that Jesus’ kingdom is not of this world. He came to bring peace with God through His sacrifice. The Triumphal Entry invites us to examine our expectations of Jesus. Do we come to Him for what we want or for who He is? He is the King who saves, but He saves in ways that often surprise us.

Reflection Questions

  1. What expectations of Jesus do you need to lay down so that you can see Him as the King He truly is?
  2. How does the vision of Revelation encourage you to look beyond present struggles to Christ’s ultimate victory?

Prayer

Hosanna, Lord Jesus! Thank You for coming as the humble King who brings salvation. Help me to worship You not just for what I want You to do, but for who You are. Fix my eyes on Your ultimate victory and give me peace as I wait for Your return. Amen.
