The Fall
Book of Genesis
~ Before Adam and Eve were tempted and succumbed, they were majestic, innocent, free, and in constant communion with God.
God formed Adam and Eve in His image and placed them in the Garden of Eden with one command: “…of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil you shall not eat, for in the day that you eat of it you shall surely die” (Gen. 2:16–17). They allowed God’s enemy to deceive them and disobeyed. In that moment, sin shattered innocence and corrupted every seed. Adam and Eve were clothed and escorted from the garden. In His mercy, God determined not to let them eat of the Tree of Life and live forever separated from Him. Embedded in this tragedy is a promise of a Savior through the seed of the woman who will permanently crush sin.
~After the fall, what was once purposeful and pure became iniquitous and laborious. What followed were millennia of the relentless, reaching love of God—As we shall see, He never gives up on mankind.
Significance
- God makes choices, and He created us to be like Him—we can choose.
- There are only three wills: our will, satan’s will, and God’s will. Our will is selfish, short-sighted, and tainted; satan’s will is to kill, steal, and destroy; God’s will is powerful, precious, and perfect.
- We all "sin and fall short of the glory of God" (Rom. 3:23). But each of us can break sin’s cycle through sincere repentance in Jesus’ name, and we will be forgiven.
- Jesus is the Second Adam, praise Him.
