God's Optimal Health Plan for You

DAY 17 OF 30

Herbs Are a Blessing

Herbs are often highlighted as part of God’s provision for health and healing. In Ezekiel 47:12 (NIV), it says, “Their fruit will serve for food and their leaves for healing,” showing that plants were designed to nourish and restore the body. Herbs like hyssop were used for cleansing and purification (Psalm 51:7), while frankincense and myrrh were valued for their medicinal and aromatic properties (Matthew 2:11). In Genesis 1:29 (NIV), God declared, “I give you every seed-bearing plant… they will be yours for food,” affirming that herbs and plants were intended to sustain life and promote well-being.

Today, we can embrace these biblical truths by incorporating herbs into our health routines for both physical and spiritual benefit. For example, using herbs like mint for digestion, garlic for heart health, or turmeric for reducing inflammation reflects God’s wisdom in creation. Beyond physical health, turning to natural remedies reminds us to care for our bodies as temples of the Holy Spirit (1 Corinthians 6:19-20). Just as herbs in Scripture symbolized healing and cleansing, we can allow their use in modern times to inspire us to pursue not only physical wellness but also spiritual renewal and balance in our lives.

  • Garlic (Numbers 11:5) – Valued in ancient times for strength and health; modern science shows it supports heart health, boosts immunity, and reduces blood pressure.
  • Coriander (Exodus 16:31) – The manna from heaven was described as resembling coriander seed; today, coriander seeds aid digestion and regulate blood sugar.
  • Aloe (John 19:39) – Used for anointing and burial; now widely known for soothing burns, hydrating skin, and reducing inflammation.
  • Frankincense & Myrrh (Matthew 2:11) – Beyond spiritual symbolism, they have antibacterial, anti-inflammatory, and calming properties, often used in oils an
