Strengthened by Grace

DAY 30 OF 30

Jesus Sends Us Out

Read Matthew 10 if you haven’t already. Take Jesus’ words to heart.

Jesus sent the disciples out into the world to proclaim that the kingdom of heaven was at hand. He knew the world He was sending them into would resist the message. He told them to beware, “Behold, I am sending you out as sheep in the midst of wolves, so be wise as serpents and innocent as doves” (Mt. 10:16 ESV).

We are the Lord’s servants, strengthened by His grace. We want to be aware of the resistance we will encounter, but not influenced or intimidated by it. Before Jesus was crucified, as He was sending the disciples out into the world to carry on His ministry, He prayed for them (Jn. 17:14-15). He prays for us as well—daily. He is with you and never will leave you or forsake you. Be strengthened by His grace!

Take the Truth to Heart

STEP ONE: Review the Take the Truth to Heart sections from Days 8, 15, and 23. Consider recording steps one through three in a note-taking app or a personal journal.

Look to Jesus, the founder and perfecter of your faith (Heb. 12:2), and choose one Scripture that the Lord is using to renew your mind and transform your heart (Rom. 12:2).

How is God using this Scripture to teach, instruct, reprove, correct, encourage, or train you (2 Tm. 3:16-17)?

STEP TWO: Put the Flesh to Death

What sin (wrong thinking or ungodly thought, belief, attitude, action, or inaction) are you convicted of due to the Scripture you chose? Confess, including an example of where you recognized this sin in your life this week. Ask for the Lord’s forgiveness and receive His mercy and grace (1 Jn. 1:9-10).

What do you now need to “put off”? What old thinking, belief, attitude, or behavior do you need to repent of, and submit to God, apply His truth to your mind and heart (Eph. 4:22; Col. 3:5-9)?

STEP THREE: Bring the Truth to Life

Walking forward in repentance and faith by God’s grace, what will you “put on” (Eph. 4:23-24; Col. 3:10, 12, 14)? How are you going to do this? Be specific in your plan of action and be encouraged by what the Lord is going to do.

Congratulations on completing this plan! We invite you to visit our store and explore other Thistlebend studies or the full-length version "Strengthened by Grace" Bible study, which covers all of 2 Timothy and includes companion videos.

About this Plan

Strengthened by Grace

Paul is in dire circumstances, yet remains unwavering in his faith. While writing to Timothy from prison, he encourages him to draw strength from the grace found only in Christ. Paul reminds Timothy—and all of us—that God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power, love, and self-discipline. May this plan from 2 Timothy chapters 1-3 inspire and strengthen you as you seek to remain steadfast and guard the gospel.
