Healing Hurts

DAY 3 OF 4

Get to the Root

One of the greatest mistakes we make is confusing relief with healing. Relief feels good for a moment, but healing transforms you for a lifetime. In Mark 10, Bartimaeus cries out to Jesus for mercy. He was blind, but Jesus didn’t assume—He asked, “What do you want Me to do for you?”

Why? Because even Jesus waits for you to name the real issue. We often settle for surface prayers. “God, just fix this.” But deep healing begins when we let the Holy Spirit dig past symptoms—fear, anxiety, addiction—and uncover the root. Often, there’s trauma, rejection, or unforgiveness buried there. And until we confront it, we’ll keep managing dysfunction instead of getting free.

Healing hurts because it makes us confront what we’ve buried. But when God exposes a wound, it’s not to shame you—it’s to heal you. You’re not crazy. You’re not broken beyond repair. But you do have to dig.

Reflection Questions:

  1. What’s one symptom in your life that might point to a deeper spiritual root?
  2. Are you willing to invite God into the painful places so He can bring real healing?

Prayer:

Jesus, I don’t want just relief—I want to be healed. Show me what’s really beneath the surface. I trust You to be gentle, but thorough. I invite You to go deep and do what only You can do. Amen.
