I thought I had friends before I got saved. Looking back, I really didn’t know what a friend was, and I didn’t have the capacity to be one. I also didn’t understand what agape love was. Before I got saved, I was consumed by darkness, and my friends were too, until something changed.

God divided the light from the darkness.

One day, I got saved. I noticed that the people who were my friends started walking away from me. Nothing bad happened between us. They just started disappearing. I thought something was wrong with me or that I had done something wrong. I didn’t do anything wrong, but God was dividing the light from the darkness. The Light inside of me had made them uncomfortable.

God divided the light from the darkness.

Sometimes in life, we go through different seasons where God separates us from situations, things, and people. It’s not because they are bad people or because something is wrong with us, but it’s because He’s separating the light from the darkness. It doesn’t mean that one day you’ll never be able to see that person again, but for that season, God is separating. God is dividing. For that time, while you’re complete opposites, light and darkness, you can’t be together. Perhaps one day God will reunite you when you’re both at peace, or when you can enter that area and shine your light without being affected by the darkness. Until then, God will keep the darkness separate from the light.

Prayer:

God, there are some things and people that I lost. When it happened, I didn’t understand it or like it. I just now understand what I’m carrying inside of me. God, help me to embrace your light and not grieve the separation of the darkness, in Jesus’ name, amen.
