Demons Cast Out into Pigs

A man possessed by a legion of demons is delivered in a moment by the Prince of Peace. A man who couldn’t be restrained, who lived in the tombs and who was of unsound mind is set free from his demonic possession and is transformed into a sane, sensible and spiritual man. What a miracle!

Yet, on seeing the healing of this man’s mental and physical state, the people couldn’t stand it. They were so fixated on the loss of a herd of wild pigs that they missed seeing the One who had set a man free from the worst kind of bondage. It’s possible that they missed the implications of this deliverance. Here was an image bearer whom the devil tormented to the point of harming himself. Had Jesus not intervened, we don’t know what would have become of him.

God cared more about the one broken human who stood before Him, screaming at Him, than the hundred pigs in that area.

Jesus came to give us life. Not an ordinary, bare minimum, just scrape by kind of life, but one that is abundant. It’s life that is wholesome and fruitful on every level, starting from within (our soul and spirit) to our outside (body). Every aspect of our lives matter to God; no area is too insignificant for His touch. Invariably, many of our physical ailments are linked to our mental and emotional state.

So it's for our best when we call on Jesus to heal us on every level, starting from within. As He begins to do that, you will be amazed at how every part of you begins to feel restored and whole.

Jesus gave the man who was delivered the assignment of reaching ten cities (Decapolis) with the gospel. Who would have thought an ex-demoniac could be an evangelist? Only Jesus can restore worth and bring purpose out of the ruins of our lives.
