What do you do when you know what to do but not how to do it? What do you do when you know what direction God has for your life, but you don’t know if you have the strength to follow it? This is what the disciples felt after the ascension; they knew their direction, but they didn’t have the strength to carry it out. They knew they were supposed to be Christ’s witnesses throughout the whole world, but by themselves, they were powerless to do so. Here we see that God calls us to things that we can not do without Him.

In this passage, we see that when God gives direction, He also unleashes the power to follow what He has asked of us. The disciples acted on faith to go back into Jerusalem and wait. They followed what they were told to do by waiting and praying. They didn’t know what was next, but they trusted in God that He would provide. Then, suddenly, the Holy Spirit is unleashed in the early church, empowering them to follow the direction that Christ had given them. God empowers the disciples to do what they are called to do. In the same way, we can be confident that God will empower us to do what He has called us to.

What is God calling you to that you need His strength for? Spend time with God and work through this question, ask what He wants of you, and ask for strength to do what He asks. When you ask, wait, and then see the strength God unleashes through you.
