Battling Addictionਨਮੂਨਾ

Men of Freedom
Brothers, we started the week by reflecting on the triggers that can lead to a relapse and how acknowledging the feelings of loneliness, burnout, and boredom can be particularly challenging. We understand how these emotions can sometimes draw us into unhealthy habits. We recognized that these triggers can be powerful, often pulling us towards our struggles when we least expect it.
The next day, we took the time to emphasize how vital it is to seek help when we need it most. As men of faith, we stand against the norm of trying to do it alone by following God's will and reaching out to our community for support. If having a face-to-face conversation feels too daunting, know it’s perfectly okay to email someone you trust. It takes courage for a man to show vulnerability, and leaning on others is a vital part of the healing journey.
As Christians, we need to surrender our challenges to God with an open heart. Instead of striving to meet our expectations of what we think God desires from us, we can find comfort in simply relinquishing control and trusting in His guidance. Remember, our hope rests in God, and His limitless grace can uplift us, helping us to find strength beyond the struggles with addiction.
On the second-to-last day, we came to a comforting understanding: a relapse doesn’t signify the end of your journey. It's a part of the process, a chance to rise again. Remember, success is about getting back up, reaching out to God, and talking with your sponsor or therapist. It's so important to lean on your family and friends during these times. A strong support system can make all the difference, helping you to navigate each day with hope and strength. You've got this, one day at a time.
Yesterday, we had a heartfelt conversation about how to support family members dealing with addiction. We recognized that addiction can profoundly influence behaviour, and it’s important to remember that it’s not the individual we love, but the addiction itself that has a grip on them. While our support is vital, we also acknowledged that the desire to change must come from the person facing this struggle. We agreed that healing is a journey best taken with others, and we cannot walk it alone.
Whether you are struggling yourself or someone you care about is, may the God of peace grant you everything you need to be a man who walks in freedom and helps others do the same.
If you or someone you love is battling addiction, please consider reaching out to Celebrate Recovery, a Christian 12-step recovery program.
Prayer: Father, be with those who are struggling with addiction; may they find strength and guidance on their journey to sobriety. May they feel Your love and support as they seek to honor You in every step they take. Amen.
Reflection: Are you getting the support you truly need right now? If not, what will you do differently? And if you’re helping someone else struggling with an addiction, know that your presence and understanding can make a world of difference.
