After Your Heartਨਮੂਨਾ

DAY 2: SITTING
Luke tells the story of two sisters, Martha and Mary, who welcomed Jesus into their home. While Martha was working hard, preparing and serving, Mary sat. She placed herself at Jesus’ feet and listened to His words. The Bible doesn’t say if she made any demands, or offered any defense for her actions. She simply sat. Some lessons require stillness.
Luke 10:39–42 (NIV) says, “She had a sister called Mary, who sat at the Lord’s feet listening to what he said. But Martha was distracted by all the preparations that had to be made. She came to him and asked, ‘Lord, don’t you care that my sister has left me to do the work by myself? Tell her to help me!’ ‘Martha, Martha,’ the Lord answered, ‘you are worried and upset about many things, but few things are needed—or indeed only one. Mary has chosen what is better, and it will not be taken away from her.’”
The presence of Jesus always reveals what matters. He didn’t praise Martha’s service or the things she was apparently doing for Him. Though these were not bad in and of themselves, Jesus honored Mary’s choice to be near Him.
Oswald Chambers once said: “Beware of anything that competes with your loyalty to Jesus Christ. The greatest competitor of true devotion to Jesus is the service we do for Him. It is easier to serve than to pour out our lives completely for Him. The goal of the call of God is His satisfaction, not simply that we should do something for Him.”
To sit at the feet of Christ is to stop searching for identity in our activity. It is to confess that “only one thing is needed”.
The song Feet of Jesus offers that same confession. “Whatever we’re looking for, we’ll find it at the feet of Jesus.”
What Mary chose was not ease. She chose Christ. She chose to be where Jesus was and to give Him her full heart: to be after his heart. And Jesus said it would not be taken from her.
Today, this is offered to you. You do not need to perform. You do not need to prove your worth. You are invited to sit. To listen. To “choose the better”.
GUIDED PRAYER
Lord, Teach me to sit at Your feet. Quiet the voices that pull my mind in many directions. Give me the courage to stop and be still. You are my peace, my portion, and my prize.
In Jesus’ Name, Amen.

About this Plan

There is nothing worth more than knowing the heart of God. This devotional invites you to seek His presence with faith, surrender, and trust. You’ll reflect on reaching for Jesus in desperation, resting at His feet in stillness, and walking with Him through life’s valleys. Each day, you’ll discover that God responds not to performance but to hearts turned toward Him. This devotion draws from the message of After Your Heart (Live), the live worship album from Paul and Hannah McClure, where every song draws you into the Father’s unchanging goodness and ignites a deeper hunger for His presence.
