The Creator's Timing: How to Get in Sync With God's Schedule

DAY 2 OF 5

DAY 2 - God’s Timing is Perpetual

TODAY'S FOCUS: God’s timing always involves eternity. Our timing is limited to our present perspective.

Have you ever experienced deja vu?

This makes us think that we’re experiencing something repeatedly in exactly the same way, when in fact our minds are just playing tricks on us.

While clearly we’re not capable of time travel, it is an interesting thing that we, for a second, feel like we have glimpsed both the past and the future.

Now imagine this: what if you could actually see both the past and future? Would you make the same decisions you’re making now?

Of course, we all say we’d love to know what lies ahead, but only God can handle that kind of knowledge.

You see, only God can plan from the end to the beginning.

When we make our plans, we’re doing so from a limited perspective. We can only see what’s behind us (in a limited fashion) and what we have right now.

The future is hidden from us.

So how does that affect our decisions in the present?

It forces us to acknowledge our total dependence on God for guidance and wisdom as we make plans for a future we can not foresee.

When we neglect to ask God for wisdom concerning our plans, we are limiting our lives to a future that is always smaller, more unsure, and less impactful to the Kingdom than it could be.

David made his share of mistakes, but one thing he always did was consult with his heavenly Father before making big moves as a king and warrior.

That reliance on God’s knowledge of the future is a gift and blessing we can walk in daily, no matter what the circumstances of life bring our way.

In James, we are reminded that it’s ok to make plans, but it’s foolish to do so without considering God’s ultimate authority in each future move we make.

Let’s be clear… I am not saying that we have to ask God before we choose what flavor of ice cream to buy. God trusts us to make the right decisions in the ebbs and flows of daily life.

I’m simply reminding you to seek the Holy Spirit’s direction daily, so even little decisions are made as His divine wisdom works within your limited understanding.

If you’re considering a new project, seek God’s approval.

If you’re ready to make plans, seek God’s direction.

Before you take action, seek God’s opinion.

As you acknowledge Him in ALL your ways, He promises to direct your paths, and it will all work out for your ultimate good in His perfect plan.

So far, our study has focused on our personal interaction with God's timing. Next, we'll look at how God weaves His plan for us into the plans He has for others.

APPLICATION FOR TODAY

Think about the biggest decision facing you and compare it to the smallest decision you made today. Is it possible for you to relinquish both of them to God?

Does it feel strange to trust/consult Him on the little decisions? Journal and share with others how you’re working to trust God’s timing.
