Principles for Life in the Kingdom of God

DAY 4 OF 12

GOD HELPS YOU IN YOUR PROFESSIONAL ACTIVITIES

MAIN IDEAS

• Although the Lord JESUS was mainly concerned with proclaiming the Gospel of the KINGDOM, He is also concerned with the daily lives of people, in order to bring glory to God and contribute to their good.

• JESUS performs this miracle knowing that the disciples will learn a useful lesson for everyday life and later on in their spiritual work.

• Peter, who was a professional fisherman, had failed to catch any fish that night, but JESUS, wanting to show him that He also had authority over all things on earth, told Peter to try again, but this time to go further out, which was against the logic of any professional fisherman.

• This miracle could not have happened had Peter not done as JESUS advised, even though for a professional fisherman, this was an illogical procedure.

• Peter and the other fishermen were amazed that JESUS also had something to say in the field of their profession, which they thought they had mastered. They were absolutely amazed but also humbled.

• This miracle further strengthened their conviction that JESUS is Master over all things and that He merits their following Him and hearing Him always.

This miracle performed by JESUS highlights another principle that those who are part of the KINGDOM OF GOD must take into account, namely that we must believe that God is fully and competently involved in our profession and in carrying out our daily work. Peter learns a life lesson here, namely, to involve JESUS in all his activities and not to rely on his human abilities. This prepared Peter and the other disciples for later spiritual service, where man should not rely on his own powers but on God’s help and guidance. If you want to experience miracles in your life, study the Biblical Word left by JESUS; believing it so much that you will live it as it was written, so that your heart will be reduced to humility and sincerity; at this point, God the Father will decide which miracle you shall receive and when you shall receive it.
Peter did not ask for this miracle, but received it because it was offered to him, for JESUS knew it would be good for him spiritually, and then - why not – good for him on an earthly level as well.
