Be the Man They Need: Manhood According to the Life of Christ

DAY 11 OF 14

Devotional

When we think of a priest, we might picture someone in robes, performing rituals or standing in a sacred space. But biblically, a priest is much more than that. A priest is someone who stands between two parties, bringing connection, healing, and reconciliation. It’s someone who intercedes on behalf of others and points them toward God.

As a fourth grader, I participated in a “peer mediation” program where we were trained to help people resolve conflicts. I didn’t realize at the time that this was a small reflection of the priestly role, standing in the gap between two parties to help them find peace. As an adult, I have often found myself in that position, whether it’s helping family, friends, or colleagues reconcile, offering counsel, or simply being a listening ear.

Jesus, our Great High Priest, stands between us and God, offering not just mediation, but complete reconciliation. He perfectly fulfills the role of the priest; He offered Himself as the ultimate sacrifice and now continues to intercede for us before the Father (Hebrews 7:25). Jesus doesn’t just represent us; He understands us, having lived among us. He is both our mediator and our Savior, fully bridging the gap between God and humanity.

As followers of Christ, we are now part of a “royal priesthood” (1 Peter 2:9, ESV). This is not just a metaphor; it’s our identity in Him. We are called to stand in the gap for others, to bring God’s presence into our homes, relationships, and workplaces. We may not wear robes or conduct rituals, but as priests, we live out our faith by interceding for others and leading them to the presence of God.

Challenge

This week, embrace your role as a priest. Intercede for someone, pray for a friend, a family member, or a colleague. Let them know you’re praying for them and speak God’s truth into their life.

Prayer

Jesus, my High Priest, thank You for interceding for me. Teach me to follow Your example and stand in the gap for those around me. Help me to lead others into Your presence through prayer, love, and faith. Amen.

The Man We Needed

Jesus, our Great High Priest, sacrificed Himself for our reconciliation and continues to intercede for us. Now, by God’s grace, it’s your turn.

Be the man they need.
