The Otherness of Godਨਮੂਨਾ

The Otherness of God

DAY 7 OF 7

God's otherness reveals our hearts

God's otherness exposes us. It humbles us. Through it, we realise our smallness, sinfulness, and need for Him. Isaiah 6:5 (NASB)"Then I said, 'Woe to me, for I am ruined! Because I am a man of unclean lips, and I live among a people of unclean lips; for my eyes have seen the King, the LORD of armies."

His otherness reveals the uselessness of our idols - things like money, power, and pleasure. It exposes the idols of other religions – their powerlessness, limitations, and createdness. Isaiah 40:25-26 (BSB) - "To whom will you liken Me, or who is My equal?" asks the Holy One. Lift up your eyes on high: Who created all these? He leads forth the starry host by number; He calls each one by name."

God's otherness reveals and confronts our human pride and the deceitfulness of our hearts. When we experience something of His otherness, it inevitably leads to awe and worship. We realise that we cannot be blasé with Him. Intimacy with God does not mean standing before Him without extreme reverence. How arrogant we sometimes are when we stand before Him! After millions of years in His presence, God's angels still stand in awe and deep respect for Him. Revelation 4:11 (NASB) - "Worthy are You, our Lord and our God, to receive glory and honour and power; for You created all things, and because of Your will they existed, and were created."

In summary

God exists perfectly on His own. He needs no support. He needs nothing and no one to take care of Him. All other things are created, and everything that is created depends on God and is sustained by Him. He reigns over everything and can do anything He wants and as He wants. Nothing can prevent God from doing what He wants. Daniel 4:35 (BSB) - "All the peoples of the earth are counted as nothing, and He does as He pleases with the army of heaven and the peoples of the earth. There is no one who can restrain His hand or say to Him, 'What have You done?'"

About this Plan

The Otherness of God

All of us are thinking about God - who He is, His character, His promises, His acts and what we can expect from Him. We always need to understand one thing: God is totally different from us. This is the content of this study: The otherness of God. It is rich in meaning.
