Kids: Dare to Live Generously! By Wycliffe Bible Translators

DAY 8 OF 8

Leave a Legacy of Generosity

You get one life to live, and you should want to live it to the very best! There are so many kinds of choices to make in life, and even those small everyday choices have a ripple effect — just like that tiny pebble when you throw it in the water — here on earth and into the future. You can’t really see all the impact of that ripple effect; but you can still touch countless lives through your words and your actions and your generosity.

You might have family and friends just nearby or maybe also all over the great big world. Either way, your lives are connected; your friendship with each other is a blessing. But it’s more than that — the stuff you do, like the words you share and the generosity you practice, will continue to create more blessings and impact in the future. That impact will touch others too as you make even more new friends and tell them about your stories, experiences, and faith in Jesus.

You can leave a wonderful legacy in your friendships. “Legacy” is just a fancy word that means you leave something behind that people remember and treasure for many years to come. You can help leave a legacy of generosity. You can have a heart and attitude that is generous and willing to share. You can be so happy and eager to give of your time, talents, treasures and words to serve and help others. You can live in community, caring for others in good times and bad. And you can live for Jesus and love like He did. All of that should leave an amazing legacy!

Best of all, you can give praise to God with your legacy. Psalm 145:4 (NLT) reminds you to share about God’s awesome goodness and faithfulness: “Let each generation tell its children of [God’s] mighty acts; let them proclaim your power.”

When you leave a good legacy that points to Jesus, you can help people now and in the future know God and feel His love for them personally. Revelation 7:9 in the Bible talks about the huge crowds of beautiful people from all backgrounds and languages worshipping God in heaven one day. Being generous now helps more and more people join those crowds and be part of God’s great Kingdom forever and ever.

Prayer Point:

Lord Jesus, help me to leave a good legacy, living my life in ways that point to You! Help me to be brave and strong as I do. I want to be full of generosity as I spread Your Word and share Your love. Help me to make good choices, even about the small things of life, remembering that they can have a big impact. Help me to love deeply and live generously. Help me to be just like You! Amen.
