Giant, It's Time for You to Come Down!

DAY 2 OF 5

Day 2: Faith-fueled Peace

If David had done everything else right when he faced Goliath, but he didn’t put his faith in God, he would have failed, because faith is the most important part of our actions as Christians. If we don’t have faith, those giants are going to take us down, so let’s take a moment to look at the power of faith in our perfect example, Jesus Christ.

We’re Going to the Other Side

In Mark 4, we can see that Jesus felt the pull of the Holy Spirit, and He immediately answered that call. He went to the sea, and He told His disciples, “We’re going to the other side.”

Now, Jesus wasn't just filling the space with words. He meant exactly what He said. From the moment God put this call on His heart onward, Jesus never lost focus. The Holy Spirit told Him He was going to the other side, so that’s what was going to happen. Even when a storm came, there was no doubt in Jesus’ mind that they were going to the other side.

This is the kind of faith we are called to have, immovable even when obstacles arise. If God is saying something in your heart or through the scriptures about what He wants you to do, He has equipped you to carry out that action or that dream. You will have obstacles, but if He said it, you're going to the other side, just like Jesus.

Faith, Peace, and Victory

The thing about Jesus’ faith is that it didn’t just set Him into action — it involved so much certainty in God’s plan that Jesus was just overflowing with peace. He was so wrapped up in faith that peace overwhelmed Him, and He fell asleep. Even when a storm started throwing their boat around and filling it with water, Jesus was completely unworried, and He just kept on sleeping in this faith-filled peace.

The disciples hadn’t learned this kind of faith yet, so they were so terrified that they woke Him, and Jesus calmed the storm, not because He was worried about it, not because it was blocking their way. Jesus knew they would get through the storm just fine, but He calmed it for His friends, who didn’t have that faith and peace.

Now, if one of the disciples, in all his fear and worry, had tried to calm that sea, he would have failed, and when we face our giants in fear, not recognizing that God is on our side, we will fail too. But Jesus’ faith produced great peace, and out of that peace rose authority. It's the same for you and me, friend. When you have that peace, you can stand up and say to the storm, “Be quiet! Be still! I have authority over you!”

Looking at Jesus’ perfect example, maybe you’re feeling inadequate. Maybe you’re thinking, “My faith isn’t very big,” or “I don’t use my faith enough.” Well, I want to tell you that your faith, big or little, used every second or barely thought of, is precious to God. He says that your faith is more precious than gold and that it can move mountains.

Your little faith is precious in the sight of God, so don’t diminish it. Don’t put it down. That faith is going to carry you through the battles with your giants, so hold onto that little bit and watch it grow with practice and testing until you have Jesus’ faith and peace.

Questions to Discuss:

  1. You can’t perceive God with your senses, so just believing that He exists is an act of faith. Have you ever thought about the little ways that you use your faith every day? Take a moment to recognize your little acts of faith.
  2. Have you ever experienced the peace of Jesus or do you know someone who does? Consider the effect that this peace has on your life.
