Wise Relationships

As we go through this life, we will have many different relationships with many different people. And not all relationships are equal. Some people we will meet only once, while with other people, we will share our heart and soul. When we decide to spend the rest of our life with someone, we must be careful whom we choose.

To appraise something or someone is to assign value based on worth. As we discern the relationships God wants us to have, we must do a relational appraisal. The people we spend time with will influence us. Are your relationships drawing you toward God or away from him? If you are spending your time only with people drawing you away from God, you may not have the support and the strength to stand up to the devil’s attacks. Wisely appraise your relationships so you can live the best life God wants you to live with the people around you as you encourage each other toward him.

Action Step: Make a list of the people you spend the most time with. For each name you list, ask yourself, Is this person drawing me nearer to the Lord? Then think of one way you can encourage each person on your list this week.

Father, grant me wisdom in my relationships so that I may choose companions who honor you. Help me cultivate friendships that uplift my spirit, inspire my soul, and reflect your love and truth. May our bonds be rooted in faith, mutual respect, and a shared commitment to glorify you in all we do. Amen.
