DAY 6 OF 14

Becoming All Things to All People

As you prepare to embark on your Trek, reflect on Paul’s words in 1 Corinthians 9:19-23. Here, Paul speaks of a mission principle that sounds almost impossible: to “become all things to all people.” Yet, this radical adaptability is at the heart of effective gospel work.

Paul’s mission wasn’t about imposing his own culture or preferences on others. Instead, he met people where they were—culturally, socially, and spiritually—in order to share the love of Christ. Imagine someone walking into your home and criticising everything: the paint, your cooking, your clothes. If they then tried to tell you about Jesus, would you listen? Probably not. Respect and empathy open hearts more than judgment ever could.

On your Trek, you will encounter people with unique stories, beliefs, and customs. Like Paul, you are called to approach these encounters with cultural sensitivity and a genuine desire to connect. This may mean trying new foods and showing appreciation even if the meal isn’t your favourite. It might mean adjusting your clothing or behaviour to honour local customs, even if it feels unfamiliar. You might participate in worship or community life quite different from what you know at home.

This willingness to adapt isn’t about losing your identity—it’s about building bridges. It’s about showing respect and love in practical ways that make space for God’s message to be heard and received.

Paul’s clear goal was “to win as many as possible” for Christ. His flexibility and humility were motivated by love—love that crossed barriers and broke down walls. As you meet people from diverse backgrounds, remember your mission: to introduce them to the transforming love of Jesus. Your openness and sensitivity can be powerful tools in this work.

Paul’s motivation was always “for the sake of the gospel.” He endured discomfort, cultural differences, and personal sacrifice because the gospel’s power to change lives outweighed any challenge. When you face obstacles—whether language barriers, unfamiliar customs, or fatigue—remember why you are here. Your efforts open doors for Christ’s light to shine where it’s needed most.

Finally, Paul reminds us that sharing in the gospel’s work means sharing in its blessings. As you serve, you’ll not only bless others—you’ll be blessed deeply yourself. There is joy and fulfillment in partnering with God to bring hope and transformation.

As you step into this mission, let Paul’s example inspire you. Embrace the diversity around you. Adapt with grace. Love with humility. Pray now for a heart willing to become all things to all people, so that Christ’s name is glorified and lives are changed.
