Find & Follow Jesus, Quarter 3

DAY 16 OF 92

Devotional:

“My soul yearns, even faints, for the courts of the Lord; my heart and my flesh cry out for the living God.” Psalm 84:2 (NIV)

There is a deep beauty in the psalmist’s words in Psalm 84:2. This isn’t a casual desire or a passing thought—it’s a holy yearning or zeal. The psalmist doesn’t long merely for a place, but for a Person. The “courts of the Lord” represent being near to God, in His presence, where peace, joy, and purpose are found.

Have you ever felt that kind of hunger for God? Not just a need to pray or go to church, but a deep ache in your soul that only time with Him can satisfy? That’s the kind of longing described here—a thirst for more of the living God.

We often fill our lives with noise, tasks, and distractions, hoping they’ll bring us peace or purpose. But none of them can satisfy the deepest part of us, which was made to be in relationship with God. The psalmist reminds us that true fulfillment comes not from what we do, but from who we’re with.

When we learn to hunger for God above all else, we begin to experience the joy and rest that only His presence brings. Even in seasons of spiritual dryness, we can ask God to stir that longing within us once again.

Prayer:

Find a quiet space and take a few deep breaths. Then, slowly pray this simple, heartfelt prayer:

“Lord, my soul longs for You. More than anything else, I need Your presence. Help me desire You above all distractions, all worries, and all lesser loves. Draw my heart closer to Yours. Let my thoughts, my emotions, and even my body respond to Your nearness. Fill the empty spaces in me with more of You. Amen.”

After praying, sit in silence for a moment. Allow yourself to simply “be” with God—no words, just stillness in His presence.

About this Plan

Find & Follow Jesus, Quarter 3

Follow our quarterly plans to read through the entire Bible in one year, plus a bonus round through the Gospels and Romans. Each day, we encourage you to read the sections from both the Old Testament and the New Testament, and then set aside some time to write down, journal, or memorize the first posted verse from each day. Every week we provide an additional devotional for further discussion on that week's themes.
