Greatness: Matthew 14-20ਨਮੂਨਾ

Greatness: Matthew 14-20

DAY 29 OF 64

The cornerstone is the first stone in a building. Other stones are aligned with it, and in doing this, the builder ensures the building is squarely built and will stand strong. In Ephesians, we see that Jesus is the cornerstone of our faith. This image is important. Jesus needs to be at the centre of our lives, the stone to which the foundation of our faith is aligned.

In this, we also become a dwelling place for God by His Holy Spirit (Ephesians 2:22, ESV) — the biggest treasure we could ever house! It is by His Spirit that we can align ourselves with Jesus, the Cornerstone. It is by the work of the Holy Spirit that we can proclaim, as Peter did that Jesus is “the Christ, the Son of the living God” (Matthew 16:16, ESV).

Peter’s confession is one of my favourite moments in the Bible. In a place of pagan worshippers, surrounded by evil, Peter proclaims Jesus as “the Christ, the Son of the living God.” It feels like it would have been said as a victory cry over the evil around them. It’s a stunning revelation that Jesus points out, “flesh and blood has not revealed this to you, but my Father who is in heaven” (Matthew 16:17, ESV). What a beautiful reminder that it is God who reveals Himself to us, by His mercy.

Today, ponder this: Who would you love to come to know Jesus? Pray for them today, asking that the Spirit would reveal who Jesus is to them! As you reflect on your life, is Jesus truly the Cornerstone? Ask Jesus to realign your heart to Him today.
