Greatness: Matthew 14-20ਨਮੂਨਾ

Greatness: Matthew 14-20

DAY 27 OF 64

In my household there are two teenage boys. One thing I can tell you about teenage boys is that they eat a lot. An hour after having a huge plate of dinner, they will be asking for more food. The number one food I suggest for them is bread. It’s a staple, it’s filling, and we almost always have it in our house.

Jesus used this common food item that many see as essential to explain that He is the one that they need, “I am the bread of life; whoever comes to me shall not hunger, and whoever believes in me shall never thirst” (John 6:35, ESV). He reminds them that bread from heaven, manna, was what sustained the Israelites when they were in the desert. It is what kept them alive. They needed it.

When Jesus is talking about bread, He is talking about eternal life, and how He is the way to eternal life. Unlike the manna in the desert that spoiled after a day, Jesus as the bread of life is for eternity. We each have an emptiness inside of us, a longing for eternity that can only be filled by a relationship with Jesus.

“For the bread of God is he who comes down from heaven and gives life to the world” (John 6:33, ESV). God has given us all we need for eternal life with Him, we just have to accept the bread of life. Like the manna, we should be eating this bread daily by living our life in dependence on Jesus.

Today, ponder this: Just like teenagers are hungry for bread, we too should be hungry for the bread of life. Are you hungry for more of Jesus? Do you feed off this bread daily, even multiple times a day, or are you letting yourself be starved of what you really need?
