Thriving Through Career Uncertainty: A Biblical Perspectiveਨਮੂਨਾ

Overcoming Fear and Uncertainty
“Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths.” - Pro 3:5-6(ESV)
The uncertainty of the future can fill us with fear. What if I fail? What if I make the wrong decision? These questions can be paralyzing, keeping us hesitant rather than moving forward. But there is another way, trusting God even in the unknown.
Esther’s story is a powerful example of overcoming fear and uncertainty with faith. A young Jewish woman living in exile, Esther found herself in an unexpected and overwhelming position: queen of Persia. But when her people were threatened with destruction, she faced a terrifying choice, remain silent and stay safe, or risk her life by approaching the king to plead for their survival. The law was clear: entering the king’s presence uninvited could mean death. Fear could have stopped her, but instead, she fasted, prayed, and boldly stepped forward, trusting that God had placed her in that position for such a time. Her courage and faith changed the course of history, saving an entire nation.
Corrie ten Boom, who lived through the horrors of the Holocaust, also understood what it meant to trust God amid overwhelming fear. As she risked her life to hide Jewish refugees from the Nazis, she clung to the truth that God’s plans were greater than her fears. She famously said, “Never be afraid to trust an unknown future to a known God.”Her unwavering trust in God carried her through, despite loss, suffering, and an uncertain future.
I’ve also had moments when fear whispered, “You’re not enough.”One of those came when I was given the responsibility to manage and redesign Little Sophia, a 14-inch humanoid robot at Hanson Robotics, built to meet the social and educational needs of children and adults around the world. It was a big project, technically demanding and deeply meaningful. I remember asking myself, Am I capable of this? What if I fail?
But I chose to believe that if God had given me this opportunity, He had also equipped me for it. That belief led me to rely completely on Him, praying through challenges, seeking His wisdom, and trusting that He would guide me. And He did. What once felt overwhelming became a testimony of His faithfulness. Every breakthrough and every moment of progress was a reminder that God was with me. Through that journey, I not only grew professionally but spiritually, learning more about who I am in Christ and finding joy in encouraging others through the process.
Fear can paralyze us, but faith propels us forward. Like Esther, Corrie, and in our everyday callings, we are invited to trust—not in our limited understanding, but in God’s perfect plan. Even when we can’t see the whole picture, He is already making a way.
Steps of Faith:
- List Three Moments of God’s Faithfulness – Reflect on past situations where God has led you through uncertainty, and remind yourself of His faithfulness.
- Do One Thing That Fear Is Holding You Back From – Whether speaking up in a meeting, making a career decision, or reaching out to someone for advice, take one step forward in faith.
Prayer: Lord, I lay my fears and uncertainties before You. Strengthen my trust in Your perfect plan. Help me to take the next step in faith, knowing that You are leading me. When fear arises, remind me of Your faithfulness. Amen.
