Trusting God When Everything Changes

“Behold, I am doing a new thing; now it springs forth, do you not perceive it? I will make a way in the wilderness and rivers in the desert.” - Isa 43:19(ESV)

There are moments in life when everything feels like it’s shifting beneath your feet, a job loss, an unexpected detour, or a future that suddenly feels uncertain. In those moments, fear creeps in, making us question if we’ll ever regain our footing. But while change may catch us off guard, it never surprises God. Even in the confusion, He is working behind the scenes, preparing something new, something far greater than we could imagine.

Ruth understood this kind of uncertainty. Widowed and far from home, she had every reason to feel lost. But instead of letting fear dictate her choices, she chose to trust. She entered the unknown, following Naomi to a foreign land with nothing but faith. What she couldn’t see then was that God was orchestrating a plan beyond her wildest dreams. Her obedience led her to Boaz, a new life, and ultimately, into the very lineage of Christ.

Joni Eareckson Tada’s story echoes this same truth. After a diving accident left her paralyzed, it seemed as though her life had come to a halt. Every dream she had was suddenly out of reach. But where the world saw limitation, God saw purpose. From her wheelchair, she became a voice of hope, an advocate for millions with disabilities, and a powerful testimony of faith in the face of adversity. What seemed like an ending was the beginning of a calling far beyond what she had envisioned for herself.

I know what it feels like to wait in uncertainty, wondering why seemingly promising doors remain closed. I was eager to find new opportunities when I moved to Hong Kong. I met countless people who promised referrals, sent out résumé after résumé, and was repeatedly told to wait until after the Chinese New Year, when companies would give out bonuses and employees would start moving. I held on to that hope, believing the right opportunity would come.

Then, 2020 arrived. Along with it came COVID-19, and the job market collapsed. Everything I had anticipated fell apart, and I was left wondering why. But in the stillness of that season, something unexpected happened; God stirred a deep interest in IoT(Internet of Things), data science, and AI(Artificial Intelligence) I found myself drawn to these fields, learning, exploring, and dreaming of how I could merge them. At the time, it seemed random, like puzzle pieces that didn’t quite fit. But I see it now. God was preparing me for something I hadn’t even dared to ask for. That preparation led me to Hanson Robotics, a role that brought together everything I had been unknowingly equipped for.

When everything changes, it’s easy to feel lost. But God’s plans are never derailed. Sometimes, what looks like a setback is a divine setup. He is the God who makes a way in the wilderness, who brings streams into the driest places. Trust that He is working, even when you can’t see it yet.

Prayer: Father, I may not see the path ahead, but I trust You do. Please help me to embrace change with faith, even when it’s uncomfortable. I trust You are leading me to something better than I can imagine. Guide my steps and give me the peace to walk in obedience. Amen.
