Pathways to Purpose

DAY 30 OF 49

In 1 Samuel 15, God commands King Saul to completely destroy the Amalekites and everything they own. However, instead of fully obeying, Saul disobeys God's instructions. He attempts to justify his actions by claiming he intended to offer the livestock he spared as sacrifices to God. but God makes it clear that obedience is more valuable than sacrifice.

“But Samuel replied, “What is more pleasing to the Lord:
your burnt offerings and sacrifices
or your obedience to his voice?
Listen! Obedience is better than sacrifice,
and submission is better than offering the fat of rams.” 1 Samuel 15:22-23 (NLT)

Saul believed that partial obedience was enough, but God desires complete obedience—because with full obedience comes full trust in Him. God wanted Saul to trust Him fully, yet Saul chose his own way over God’s way. Instead of surrendering to God’s command, he took the easier, more convenient route.

Are there areas in your life where you are offering "sacrifices" instead of full obedience? Perhaps God has called you to step out in faith, forgive someone, or let go of something, but you’ve been hesitant. Today, choose obedience over convenience, trusting that God's way is always best.

Prayer:

Lord, help me to choose obedience today. Forgive me for the times I have struggled to trust You fully. Give me wisdom to understand Your will and ears to listen to Your voice knowing that obedience leads to blessings. Amen.
