Unexpected

DAY 7 OF 28

At the end of every week, we'll give you a challenge—something to try that might be outside your regular routine. Each challenge is designed to help you develop one important spiritual habit. This week, it's...

SPEND TIME WITH GOD

There's no formula or one right way to spend time with God. Whether you already know how you like to spend time with God, or you're still trying to understand how to hear God's voice, today's challenge is going to help you experiment with some new ways of connecting with God. Try it and see what you discover about God—and about yourself, too!

One of the ways we can celebrate God's unearned grace is by recognizing that with God, we can do so much more than we could on our own. For this week's challenge, you'll reflect on where you feel weakest and invite God to strengthen you in that area.

What's something you find difficult to do or notice you're continually slipping up in? It could be a character trait like showing kindness, telling the truth, or encouraging others. Or it might be you feel called to help others in a specific way or to be bold in sharing your story but still find it challenging.

Once you've picked something you want to improve in, set up a time to pursue it to ask God to strengthen you in it—doing an act of service or setting an afternoon aside when you focus only on kindness or showing love. Pray beforehand and focus on asking God to lead you as you go. After, thank God for the outcome and for giving you the strength to stretch beyond your comfort zone.

About this Plan

Unexpected

For many, the Christmas season is bursting with excitement about gifts—what’s on your wish list? What surprises might be under the tree? And what about the joy of finding the perfect present for someone? But the very first Christmas was all about the best, unexpected gift that God picked out for us. In this 4-week devotional series from Grow Curriculum, we’ll explore the Christmas story to reveal the unexpected wrapped in the gift of Jesus! Let’s tie the bows and deck the halls, but most of all, let's celebrate the unexpected ways God is with us this season.
