SACRIFICE
“Greater love has no one than this: to lay down one’s life for one’s friends.” John 15:13 (NIV)
Sacrifice is a word we often hear, but its true meaning can be elusive until we are called to live it out ourselves. Jesus, the ultimate example of sacrifice, laid down His life for us. His love for humanity was so great that He gave up everything for our salvation.
In our circumstances, sacrifice doesn’t always mean laying down our life, but it does often mean giving up something of value for the sake of others. Whether it’s time, comfort, or desires, sacrifice is an act of love that reflects the heart of God.
When Joshua led the Israelites into the Promised Land, he knew that sacrifice was part of the journey. Before the walls of Jericho fell, before the waters parted, there was a call to obedience and surrender to God’s will. The Israelites had to trust God’s plans, even when it required them to step out in faith, face their fears, and let go of their own strategies. In doing so, they experienced God’s faithfulness and power in ways they could never have imagined.
Sacrifice is often difficult. It requires laying down what we want in the moment for something greater. It can feel like a loss, but in reality, it is an investment in something far more valuable: the kingdom of God, relationships, and our growth in Him.
Sacrifice doesn’t always make sense in the moment, but as we follow Jesus’ example, we trust that our sacrifice is never wasted. It becomes a powerful act of love that mirrors the sacrifice He made for us.
CHALLENGE:
Give up your personal plans for a day and ask God how He wants to use you. Embrace any interruptions as opportunities to serve or step out of your comfort zone, trusting that God’s plan is better than your own.
PRAYER THOUGHT:
Take a moment to reflect on the areas of your life where God may be calling you to sacrifice for the sake of others. Thank Him for His ultimate sacrifice on the cross and ask for His strength to lay down your own desires for His greater purpose.
