Acts - Until Everyone Knows

DAY 13 OF 28

Acts 13

Paul and Barnabas are commissioned as apostles and embark on their first missionary journey. They are sent out by the Church in Antioch under the guardianship of the Holy Spirit for good work, which God had prepared beforehand (Ephesians 2:10). They come to Cyprus, where they challenge Elymas (Jewish sorcerer and false prophet) and lead the local leader, Sergius Paulus, to faith in Jesus. They sail on to Pisidian Antioch, where they preach in the synagogue, recounting the history of the Church and the fulfilment of Biblical prophecies through Jesus.

Many believe and are saved while others rise in opposition. The apostles are happy to see the fulfilment of God’s Plan for Salvation among Gentiles and are filled with joy and with the Holy Spirit.

The success of these missionary journeys laid the foundation of Christianity in our world today. The letters subsequently written by Paul to the churches planted during these journeys have continued to guide and bless believers all over the world. And part of his success stems from the sending Church in Antioch, which sought God’s Will through prayer and fasting before receiving the clear mandate from the Holy Spirit to set Paul and Barnabas apart.

It is also good for you to cultivate the habit of waiting on the Lord and to understand what He has already prepared for you to do (Ephesians 2:10). Like Paul and Barnabas, you are called to boldly proclaim the Good News of Jesus in favorable and unfavorable times (2 Timothy 4:2).

Heavenly Father, I pray that through Your Spirit, You would reveal what You have prepared in advance for me to do today. I am ready and willing to step out! Amen.

About this Plan

Acts - Until Everyone Knows

In Acts, we read about the Early Church taking its first steps to go out to the nations. This happened because ordinary people were filled with the Holy Spirit, enabling them to share the Good News of Jesus and bring healing and freedom. God has designed you to walk in the same Power today! As you learn from this Book, one chapter a day, and read the Devotional, consider this question: How can I step out more to share the Good News of Jesus in the Power of the Holy Spirit?
