The Creator's Purpose: A Model for Creative Work

DAY 4 OF 5

MULTIPLICATION

KEY POINT: God always creates with the expectation of multiplication, and we should do the same.

If you want to find an example of someone who was prolific in both family and career, look no further than the famed classical composer Johann Sebastian Bach.

As the founder of the Baroque movement, he composed an incredible 1128 works over his lifetime, many of which are now heard in every corner of the world..

However, that’s not the only way in which Bach was prolific. He also had 20 children, 4 of whom became well-known composers with successful careers.

It's this kind of multiplication that God is interested in.

He isn’t only interested in what we do in this generation, but also in how our work impacts future generations.

God gave Adam and Eve the blessing and charge to be fruitful and multiply. It’s interesting that God didn't simply make millions of people and fill the earth with them. He gave His creations the ability to multiply and do it themselves.

That fact proves that multiplication isn’t an option for us. Multiplication is mandatory.

If you need more evidence, just look at the parable of the talents. The master expected multiplication to be the bare minimum for his servants.

If God reveals Himself as a multiplier in Scripture, then it's safe to say our purpose as sub-creators is to act in the same manner.

God expects us to make more good things with his good gifts, and He loves it when we do!

Have you ever quit a fun or productive project? Did you stop because it was hard? Because there was "too much" of it?

Often, we choose not to multiply our gifts because we fear our contribution isn't needed or noticed.

But that fear is unwarranted.

Your contribution to the world is not only needed, it's a necessity to see God's ultimate glory fulfilled. We are called to make more good things and to abound in every good work.

If there's a lesson in the fact that God is a multiplier, it's that His created people should also be natural multipliers. Anytime we create, we should anticipate and expect more of what we make.

Don't let the fear of man, failure, or even success stop you from fulfilling your calling today to multiply the things you manage.

ACTION STEPS

Take a look at the projects, tasks, and ideas you have. If you have limited your expectations for them, ask yourself why.

Now, imagine what those plans would look like if you expected and worked toward multiplication.

Make plans and set action steps to pursue that multiplied vision.
